Horsforth In Bloom took on a project in 2014 which involved a single hornbeam tree sited close to the staff works place.

The hornbeam tree had historical significance as in 1916 a WW1 battle took place on The Somme at Delville Woods when thousands of British and Commonwealth troops died in a ferocious battle. Such was this ferocity that a whole wood was destroyed but for one hornbeam tree, that survives until this day.

Horsforth in Bloom have built and created a lasting memorial of that battle 100 years ago against the one hornbeam tree in the park.
